The tour departs Amamoor at 7am with morning tea and lunch long the way. We pass through Roma and Mitchell on the way to Bonus Downs Farmstay where our accommodation is in the historic Shearers Quarters Farmstay. Dinner is under a million stars at the Bonus Downs Smokehouse.
We have a relaxed start with a hearty country breakfast at Bonus Downs and then we relax in the Artesian Water Spa Baths at Mitchell before heading onto Charleville for the night where we dine and stay at the famous Corones Hotel.
First call is the Ellangowan Hotel at Augathella then onto Tambo the home of world-renowned Tambo Teddies. Lunch is at The Lodge at Hawthorne in Blackall then we travel to where we stand under the Tree of Knowledge at Barcaldine. It’s a short drive onto Longreach where we stay for 2 days to take in all the attractions.
Options for our 2 days in Longreach include Nogo Station to view a working cattle and sheep station and shearing demonstration, visit the Stockman’s Hall Of Fame and the Qantas Outback Founders Museum. Also on offer is the amazing Cobb & Co Stage Coach Ride on the 30,000 acre Common after watching the Harry Redford Old Time Tent Show. An option not to be missed is visiting Camden Park Station, a spectacular Australian outback homestead for afternoon tea.
We complete our 2nd day by relaxing on an evening Sunset Cruise on the Long-Reach of the Thompson River. This is followed by Starlights’ Cruise Experience. We visit the Station Store, a fantastic emporium of outback products, gifts & souvenirs. Accommodation for 2 nights is at award winning Saltbush Retreat in the boutique Slab Huts ’
We head up the road to Winton where our visit includes the new Waltzing Matilda Centre which was partly burnt down in 2015, and a tour of Age of the Dinosaurs. We are treated to a private movie screening at the Royal Open Air Theatre. Accommodation is at the Art Deco North Gregory Hotel and the evening meal is at the Tattersalls Hotel.
After Breakfast we to the memorable Middleton Hotel where you are given a photo opportunity with the larrikin publican before travelling to the Ruins of the Hamilton Hotel where we have a picnic lunch. We then head into Bouila in time to visit some of the local attractions, art gallery, and see the animals and natural surrounds. The accommodation and dinner tonight is at Australian Hotel in Boulia.
Leaving Bouila we head south towards Birdsville via Bedourie Hotel with a picnic lunch. You can wash the dust off at the Bedourie Heated Pool.
The excitement and anticipation builds as we head to Birdsville in time for a cold beer and a yarn with a local at the famous Birdsville Pub.
We then travel a short distance West of Birdsville to BIG RED in the Simpson Desert where we will stay for the 3-day BIG RED BASH – the most remote music festival in Australia! Accommodation for the next 3 nights is in our very own Tent City where we dine under a million stars. All meals are provided for the 3 day event.
We spend 3 amazing days and nights at the Big Red Dune, some 35km west of Birdsville on the eastern edge of the Simpson Desert, The Big Red Bash is Australia’s most remote major music festival held over and located in outback Queensland. Big Red is the last of some 1,100 dunes that travellers encounter when travelling across the Simpson Desert from the west.
The Big Red Bash is the most amazing and unique outback concert experience you’ll ever have. Set in the Simpson Desert, we don’t have to keep the volume down out here! So come to the Big Red Bash and enjoy a real sense of outback freedom. Kick back and enjoy the big blue skies by day and the brightest starlit skies by night. The beautiful natural light and sweeping vistas together with the stunning red dunes are an amazing experience. Enjoy the outback hospitality and campsite camaraderie, and of course the great music.
