The tour departs Amamoor at 7am via Gympie, with a quick cuppa in Nanango & travels on to the Garden City of Toowoomba. Lunch is in Nobby at Rudd’s Historical Pub. We visit Glengallan Homestead & Heritage Centre near Warwick for a tour & stop at Inglewood Hotel for a quick break mid afternoon. Accommodation Victoria Hotel.
This day starts by travelling to the famous Nindigully Pub beside the Moonie River where it is traditional to have a cold beer. Travelling through St George we go on to Bollon for lunch by the lagoon & a visit to the Bollon Hotel. You will enjoy an afternoon beer in Cunnamulla while being entertained by a bush poet & whip cracking. Accommodation Boutique Club Hotel Cunnamulla
Before continuing the journey we take a tour of Cunnamulla with host Pietà. Travelling west we stop to view the Mud Baths at Eulo. No trip west is complete without a stop at the memorable Toompine Pub ‘The pub with no town’ population of 2. The lunchtime experience is in the town of Quilpie . As we enter Windorah we view the Solar Power Station that saves the town 100,000 litres of diesel fuel per year. Entertainment on this night is Windorah’ s iconic International Yabby Races at Western Star Hotel. This quaint town swells from 40 to a couple of thousand as everyone is now on the road to Birdsville.
The excitement and anticipation continues to build as we head to Betoota Pub. Betoota is now a ghost town as the publican died in 2004. The tour arrives in Birdsville in time for a cold beer and a yarn with a local at the famous Birdsville Pub. Accommodation for the next three nights is in Tent City where we wine and dine under the stars.
While touring the town of Birdsville view the Historic Outback homes, the Birdsville School, the Cemetery, & the Old Royal Hotel. A must do in Birdsville is to try the famous curry camel pies at the renowned and fully licenced Birdsville Bakery where you can ofcourse enjoy a beer. There is an option on the Friday afternoon to visit “Big Red” to experience drinks as the sun sets over the Simpson Desert with Kylie Scott from Desert Edge Tours.

After a memorable weekend at the Birdsville Races we head north stopping at the Shoe Tree and then continue to Bedourie Hotel to enjoy a picnic lunch in Bedourie. The accommodation on that night is at Desert Sands in Boulia with a meal at the Australian Hotel.
Morning tea on this day is at the most memorable Middleton Hotel where you are given a photo opportunity with the larrikin publican before travelling to Winton. We visit the famous Waltzing Matilda Centre which was party burnt down in 2015. The visit to Winton includes a tour of Age of the Dinosaurs and everyone has the opportunity to play the Musical Fence. Accommodation is at the Art Deco North Gregory Hotel and the evening meal is at the Tattersalls Hotel.
On day 9 we travel to Longreach, with options to experience Nogo Station to view a working cattle & sheep station & sheep shearing demonstration. Another option is the Cobb & Co Stage Coach Tour in the 30000 acre Common which surrounds Longreach with Richard Kinnon at the reins. All participants in the tour are invited to join Scotty’s guided Pioneering Past Tour of the Gardens of the Australian Hall Of Fame. The day is complete with a relaxing evening Sunset Cruise on the Long-Reach of the Thompson River. This is followed by a traditional Stockmen’s Dinner with Bush Poetry & Starlight’s Spectacular Sound & Light Show Accommodation is at Kinnon & Co Homestead Stables.
Before leaving Longreach you have the option to visit the Stockman’s Hall Of Fame and the Qantas Outback Founders Museum. We visit the Station Store, a fantastic emporium of outback products, gifts & souvenirs & watch the Harry Redford Old Time Tent Show as well at the Welcome Home. After leaving Longreach an important stop is the Wellshot Hotel and continue to Barcaldine to see the Tree of Knowledge. The quaint little town of Tambo is well-known for the Tambo Teddies. Accommodation Tambo Tavern.
From Tambo the tour continues on to Augathella’s Ellangowan Hotel, followed by an afternoon beer at the Mungallala Pub. If you haven’t already done so, at this point you do really “fall in love with the Outback” at Bonus Downs Farmstay. This is ultimate outback experience with beers in the Smoke House On Dusk and a spit roast dinner.
On the last day we have breakfast & say goodbye to our hosts Lyle & Madonna Connolly at “Bonus Downs”. We travel through the townships of Mitchell & Roma with Lunch at the Windsor Hotel in Miles on to Chinchilla traveling through the South Burnett to Amamoor.
