The touring party depart the Mundi Mundi plains as early as possible and lead the procession of vehicles eastward bound. We travel back along the Barrier Highway to Wilcannia and turn north to a town full of surprises. Stay in dugout (underground) rooms carved into the rock, a quiet, quirky and memorable experience.
After travelling through Cobar we will visit The Big Bogan at Nyngan and see history of the 1990 flood when the entire population were evacuated by helicopter. Drinks will be served at the Brewarrina Weir Fishway where you can watch the pelicans play.
We will leave Brewarrina early to meet a tour to “Three Pubs in the Scrub at Lightning Ridge. The tour will also visit Amigo’s Castle. There will be a short afternoon drive to our accommodation that night at the boarder town of Hebel.
Following along the Great Inland Way from Hebel to Dirranbandi, we view some of Australia’s finest grain country. A highlight of the day is viewing the Thallon silos and a beer at the Nindagully Pub on the banks of the Moonie.
Accommodation will be at Goondiwindi’s O’Shea’s Royal Hotel and dinner will be at the grand Victoria Hotel. If we are lucky, there will be time to do some shopping in down town Gundy.
As we travel from Goondiwindi to Brisbane we see the transition from the flat, expansive cotton and grain country of the Darling Downs into the lunch, mountainous descent of the Great Dividing Range and travel through the garden city of Toowoomba, Brisbane and back to the Sunshine Coast.
